Greenland’s Nuuk airport has suspended security screening for international travelers, forcing airlines to divert and cancel flights, in what represents a setback for the island’s push to boost tourism.

The order by the Danish Transport Authority was issued after the supervisor “identified a number of inadequate security measures in the security area,” a spokesperson from the regulator said in emailed comments on Wednesday, without giving details. The suspension, which took effect early Wednesday, will remain in place until airport personnel have completed additional training that meets regulatory requirements, Greenland Airports said in a post on Facebook.
