Philippine Internet Bill Becomes Law Despite Industry Opposition

A bill aimed at enhancing internet connectivity in the Philippines by promoting competition has become law despite opposition from the country’s largest phone companies.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said on Sunday the bill has lapsed into law. Under the nation’s legislative process, a bill that isn’t signed or vetoed by the president will become law 30 days after it was sent by Congress.
