European Gas Posts Weekly Gain as Ukraine Peace Optimism Wanes

European natural gas posted its first weekly advance in three as the initial optimism over US President Donald Trump’s efforts to end Russia’s war in Ukraine wanes.

Benchmark futures edged higher on Friday and gained 8.2% for the week. While prices had dropped to a one-year low in anticipation of a potential peace agreement, Russia’s demands to have a say in Ukraine’s security guarantees and over claims to territory have highlighted the difficulty of reaching a deal.
