Key Chinese Diplomat Reappears After Reportedly Being Questioned

A senior Chinese diplomat attended a reception at the Indian embassy in Beijing after reportedly being questioned in connection with the investigation into a key government official.

Sun Haiyan, former ambassador to Singapore and now vice minister of the Communist Party’s International Department, met with India’s ambassador at the event on Friday. She was invited to attend the reception to mark India’s Independence Day, according to a statement published by the International Department hours after Reuters reported she was detained by authorities for questioning.
