Rubio Speaks With Russia’s Lavrov Ahead of Trump-Putin Meeting

Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov to prepare for Friday’s summit between the two countries’ presidents, even as he reiterated the meeting may not lead to a breakthrough in the Ukraine conflict.

“Both sides confirmed their commitment to ensure a successful event,” State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in a statement. Bruce didn’t elaborate on the contents of the call.
