India Clears $3.4 Billion Aid to Firms for Subsidized LPG Sales

Photographer: Dhiraj Singh/BloombergIndia’s cabinet on Friday approved a one-time payout of 300 billion rupees ($3.4 billion) for state-run fuel retailers to compensate them for selling liquefied petroleum gas to poor households at subsidized rates.
“In today’s geopolitics, gas prices are going up and down and this decision has been taken keeping in mind middle class families, who need to be insulated from any negative impact,” Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said at a press briefing in New Delhi on Friday.
