Zimbabwe’s tobacco sales jumped 48% to a record $1.1 billion in the season that ended Thursday, helped by rising demand from China.

Volumes jumped 53% to 352.7 million kilograms (778 million pounds), the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board said. Small-scale farmers produced 65% of the crop, according to board Chairman Patrick Devenish. About 11% of total production was sold to the Far East, according to TIMB data.
