Critics of Mexico’s ruling party are seizing on expensive foreign vacations recently favored by senior leaders as evidence of hypocrisy, which threatens to anger the millions of mostly poor Mexicans who constitute its base of support.
The leftist Morena party led by popular President Claudia Sheinbaum built its brand on frugality, but the latest leader to run afoul of that is none other than the son of the party’s founder, ex-President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
