Ukraine’s top prosecutor for fighting corruption said he’s optimistic that the parliament will back a bill restoring the independence of the country’s anti-graft institutions, meeting the demands of protesters and Kyiv’s allies.

If it passes, Thursday’s vote will reverse a controversial decision by lawmakers backed by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to subordinate investigators of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, or SAPO, and National Anti-Corruption Bureau, or NABU, to the General Prosecutor’s Office — a body mistrusted by many Ukrainians which is led by a presidential loyalist.
