EU to Launch New Border-Control System in October After Delays

A new border control system to monitor hundreds of millions of people entering the European Union each year will come into force in October after repeated delays.

The rollout of the Entry/Exit System, known as EES, will begin on Oct. 12 on a phased basis, with EU countries expected to implement the system within six months. The new system will record the details of non-EU nationals entering 29 European countries, the EU executive said in a statement on Wednesday, registering their biometric data, including fingerprints and facial imagery.
