Zelenskiy Retreats, Proposes Bill to Quell Corruption Furor
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stepped back from his earlier attempt to quash the independence of anti-graft officials, which triggered mass demonstrations on the streets and censure from the nation’s foreign backers.
“It is important that we respect the position of all Ukrainians and are grateful to everyone who stands with Ukraine,” Zelenskiy said in a statement on Thursday, when he submitted a new bill on the matter to parliament.
