European Central Bank policymakers pushing for another cut in interest rates face an uphill battle, with inflation at 2% and the economy withstanding trade turbulence, according to people familiar with the matter.

A hold looks like the baseline for September after eight reductions since June 2024, the people said, asking not to be identified revealing private discussions. Some suggested the onus is on those seeking further easing to justify their stance, rather than those opposed to more action having to make their case.
