Spain’s Gas Use for Power Jumps 41% in First Half on Blackout
Spain’s gas consumption for electricity generation soared 41% in the first half of the year, with the power grid relying heavily on the fossil fuel to stabilize the country’s power network in the wake of a nationwide blackout in April.
Combined-cycle gas turbines were used “as a reinforcement of electricity supply security,” gas network operator Enagas SA said in its earnings report Tuesday.
