Defiant Ishiba Seeks to Prolong Premiership After US-Japan Deal

Embattled Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba denied media reports that he is set to announce his resignation, in an apparent bid to extend his premiership despite an election setback earlier in the week.

The speculation over Ishiba’s future mounted quickly after President Donald Trump’s sudden announcement of a relatively favorable trade deal with Japan early Wednesday morning in Tokyo.
