The US government said Wednesday it has located a man wrongly deported to El Salvador and whose whereabouts were previously unknown, adding that he is being held in the country’s CECOT maximum-security prison.

Jordin Alexander Melgar-Salmeron was put on a flight May 7 to his native El Salvador 30 minutes after a New York appeals court issued an order blocking his removal, which the government later said was “due to a confluence of administrative errors.” On June 24, the court ordered the Trump administration to return him to the US “as soon as possible.”
