Search crews slogged through thick mud and debris Tuesday in central Texas, where more than 100 people are confirmed deadBloomberg Terminal after catastrophic flooding.

Authorities described the search as grueling and slow-moving, with unstable rubble piles and high water complicating recovery efforts along the Guadalupe River. Governor Greg Abbott, visiting the disaster-struck area, said that 109 people have been confirmed dead statewide. Authorities believe at least 161 people may still missing at the epicenter of the flooding in Kerr County, Abbott said. Elsewhere in surrounding regions, roughly a dozen people remain unaccounted for.
