Spirit Airlines wants federal regulators to block a proposed partnership between United Airlines Holdings Inc. and JetBlue Airways Corp., saying it would restrict competition, raise fares and lure away passengers from discount rivals.

In a filing Tuesday, Spirit urged the US Transportation Department to extend a review and public comment period for the Blue Sky partnership by 60 days so it can “properly and carefully” address anticompetitive concerns about the venture, which was announced on May 29.
