Chicago Billionaire’s New Soccer Stadium Wants Wrigley-Like Aura
Billionaire Joe Mansueto’s Chicago Fire FC is pushing its plan for a $650 million soccer stadium and supporters are invoking one of the city’s best-known landmarks as part of the sales pitch: Wrigley Field, home of baseball’s Chicago Cubs.
The proposed new soccer venue will eventually anchor an array of entertainment options much like Gallagher Way offers Cubs fans restaurants, events and a hotel near Wrigley, said Curt Bailey, president of Related Midwest, which is developing the broader real estate project south of downtown that will be home to the stadium.
