Starbucks’ Latest Fix for Busy Stores? More Assistant Managers in the US

Starbucks Corp. is planning to add at least one full-time assistant manager to most of its company-operated US locations, giving store managers more latitude to focus on tasks such as recruiting and managing schedules.

Store managers oversee a staff of about 18 workers and about $2 million in sales each year on average, Starbucks human resources chief Sara Kelly said at a Starbucks event in Las Vegas on Tuesday. Only about 20% of Starbucks locations in the US currently have an assistant manager, according to the company, and the roles tend to be short term.
