Hungary Police Ban Pride Parade in Showdown Over Culture War

Hungarian authorities barred the annual Pride parade on the streets of Budapest in the latest salvo of Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s escalating culture war before elections.

Police, in a decision published on Tuesday, cited a constitutional amendment from April which Orban has said would provide legal grounds for banning LGBTQ events in public. The prime minister has sought to stop the parade, casting the event as a threat to children’s development.
