Netflix Inc. co-founder and Chairman Reed Hastings is joining the board of the artificial intelligence startup Anthropic, bolstering oversight of the company with a veteran technology industry executive and philanthropist.

Hastings, 64, was appointed by the company’s Long-Term Benefit Trust, according to a statement Wednesday. Anthropic has a unique corporate structure designed to balance its corporate interests and responsibilities to society. The trust’s members have the authority to appoint and remove members of the board.
