Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s planned crackdown against civil society and media infringes on the rule of law, according to an independent group of judges.

A bill Hungary’s parliament started debating this week “violates democratic rule of law norms including the separation of powers, and the right to legal certainty and to seek legal recourse,” the Association of Hungarian Judges, an independent civil society group led by jurists, said in a statement on Tuesday.
