Europe’s Wind Drought Curbs Power Generated by Offshore Turbines
Unusually persistent high-pressure weather systems over northwest Europe are bringing sunny skies, perfect for solar generation, but it’s having the opposite effect on wind.
Wind speeds across the region plunged by almost a quarter in the first four months of this year compared with the long-term average, data from Atmospheric G2 show. That’s dented earnings from offshore wind farms, including those operated by RWE AG and Orsted AS.
