Malaysia extended the term of anti-corruption agency head Azam Baki, according to state media Bernama, in a move that’s likely to draw criticism of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government.

Azam’s tenure as chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission was lengthened by a year, the report said, citing a statement from Chief Secretary to the Government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar late Friday. The appointment is effective May 13. An MACC spokesperson didn’t immediately confirm the reappointment.
