Venezuela Escape Shows Maduro’s Vulnerability, Trump Envoy Says

The escape of five members of Venezuela’s opposition took President Nicolas Maduro’s government by surprise, the Trump administration’s outgoing Latin America envoy said, rebutting the regime’s claims that the departure had been negotiated.
The aides to opposition leader María Corina Machado were smuggled out of the Argentine Embassy in Caracas “under Maduro’s nose,” the envoy, Mauricio Claver-Carone, said in an interview.
