Social media platform X blocked the account of jailed Istanbul mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, a rival to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan whose detention sparked nationwide protests, following a court order.

Users visiting the page from Turkey on Thursday morning saw only a message that said the account “has been withheld in TR in response to a legal demand,” without elaborating. Imamoglu’s English-language account remained accessible.
