Romania’s far-right leader, the resounding first-round winner of the nation’s presidential election, said he found inspiration in Argentina’s chainsaw-wielding president when asked about how he would address the country’s economic woes.
George Simion, who as leader of the ultranationalist Alliance for the Union of Romanians is one run-off victory away from Romania’s highest office, said the only answer to a widening budget deficit and lingering inflation is to shrink the state, much like Javier Milei. The plan could also draw inspiration from President Donald Trump’s controversial Department of Government Efficiency.
