Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu plans to offer his resignation after the country’s far-right opposition leader scored a resounding first-round victory in a presidential election on Sunday, according to a person familiar with the plan.
Ciolacu, who leads the governing Social Democrats, will offer to step down after a second-round contest is held on May 18, the person said on condition of anonymity. A ruling coalition meeting is scheduled to take place later on Monday in Bucharest.
