Ozgur Ozel, Turkey’s main opposition leader, was slapped in the face after attending the funeral of a pro-Kurdish politician in Istanbul on Sunday as political tensions continue to run high.
In a video posted online, Ozel, 50, is seen wincing after a powerful open-handed blow to the forehead, before being pulled to safety by his bodyguards. A gray-haired man dressed in jeans and a leather jacket was restrained by Ozel’s handlers and later detained by police.
