Romania’s prime minister plans to offer his resignation Monday after a far-right opposition leader who aligned himself with Donald Trump scored a resounding first-round victory in the Black Sea nation’s presidential election.
Premier Marcel Ciolacu will tell his coalition partners that he’s prepared to quit after a run-off vote is held on May 18, a person familiar with the decision said, responding to the electoral defeat of a candidate supported by his coalition. George Simion of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians secured more than 40% in the repeat election Sunday.
