Singapore’s People’s Action Party is off to a strong start in Saturday’s election, according to sample counts showing the party that has ruled the city-state for six decades well ahead of the opposition in more than two dozen voting districts.

PAP candidates were the clear favorites in all but two of more than 26 districts with sample counts published so far, signaling that the party can maintain its hold on power. The main opposition Workers’ Party looks poised to hang onto the same handful of seats they won in the 2020 vote, while none of the smaller opposition parties were leading in the races they are competing in.
