This British SUV Looks Like a Defender, But It’s All New, Baby

The $83,100 Ineos Grenadier Fieldmaster is a charming nod to nostalgia.

The Ineos Grenadier is the brainchild of British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, who founded Ineos Automotive Ltd. in 2017. It looks similar to a classic Land Rover Defender, but it’s not a restomod. It’s brand-new, built from the ground up in Hambach, France, and shares no components with the older off-roader.

I’ve seen the boxy SUV in the tonier enclaves of Los Angeles, New York, Miami and London. Its biggest market is Texas, where everyone from San Antonio ranchers to Dallas socialites have embraced its retro style and practicality.
