The US is imposing sanctions on three vessels for allegedly delivering refined petroleum products to the Houthis, a sign of continued US pressure as it negotiates with Iran about Tehran’s nuclear program.

The targeted vessels transported liquid petroleum gas and gas oil to a Houthi-controlled port in Yemen, the Treasury Department said in a Monday statement. The Iran-backed group, designated a terrorist organization by the US, uses profits made from selling oil derivatives to finance military materials, which “creates an artificial shortage of essential goods for average Yemenis, and fuels rampant corruption among Houthi leaders,” the department said.
