Some young Chinese people are taking slacking off to a whole new level, celebrating a life of very little ambition — and even less work — as “rat people.”

The phrase has spread on Chinese social media recently, with internet users sharing video clips of time spent mostly in bed, except for treks to the front door to take delivery of food. Highlighting how the phenomenon has taken off, a “rat people” hashtag has attracted 10 million views over the last two months on Weibo.
