The Texas House of Representatives passed a $1 billion school voucher program, a key victory in Governor Greg Abbott’s long quest to establish school choice.
The proposal, which would establish “education savings accounts” for thousands of students to spend on private school tuition and related expenses, would make Texas the latest in a string of 34 states with such a program, according to advocacy group EdChoice. President Donald Trump applauded the vote on Truth Social, saying he will “soon be sending education back to all the states.”
