The International Monetary Fund said it will continue discussions with Bangladesh for a staff level agreement in the near-term, indicating that authorities will need to do more to secure further loans.
Further talks, including during the upcoming IMF-World Bank meetings next week, will “pave the way for the completion of the combined third and fourth program review,” said Chris Papageorgiou, the lender’s mission chief, on Thursday after concluding the country visit. The two sides will deliberate on revenue targets and greater exchange rate flexibility, he added.
