A punishing stock selloff and soaring volatility couldn’t keep investors away from one of the market’s riskiest corners: leveraged exchange-traded funds.
Shares outstanding across the top 50 levered ETFs ranked by assets have risen 20% since President Donald Trump’s so-called Liberation Day on April 2, data compiled by Citi Global Markets show. During that time, worries over global trade briefly drove the S&P 500 to the edge of a bear market and extended losses in the Nasdaq 100, which is down 13% year-to-date.
