A federal judge chided the Trump administration for trying to delay its response to a US Supreme Court order to take steps to return a Maryland man wrongly deported to a notorious prison in his native El Salvador.

US District Court Judge Paula Xinis had initially given the government until Friday at 9:30 a.m. to say how it will facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia after the Supreme Court order on Thursday night. Just minutes before the deadline, Justice Department lawyers asked for a filing extension until April 15.
