ECB Has No Reason to Cut Interest Rates Now, Holzmann Says

The European Central Bank should allow uncertainty stoked by US President Donald Trump’s broadside on global trade to clear before considering any further interest-rate cuts, according to Governing Council member Robert Holzmann.
Tariffs and threats of counter-measures make it next to impossible to predict if inflation in the 20-nation euro zone will continue to approach the ECB’s 2% target as planned, Holzmann said in an interview in Vienna. A pause in April is therefore policymakers’ best choice and preferable to rushing into action.
