A Japanese space startup is buying US-made rocket engines for use with its small, reusable launch vehicles in a bid to bridge the gap between the country’s large-scale satellite production and its limited access to space launches.
The US subsidiary of Japan’s Innovative Space Carrier, Sirius Technologies, has agreed to purchase 10 engines from Ursa Major Technologies, a Colorado-based company founded by a former SpaceX and Blue Origin engineer. In interviews, executives from both of the closely held companies declined to disclose the value of the contract.
