Picanhas’ Serves Casual South American Steaks in New HK Offering
The Elgin Street restaurant is the latest outing by the people behind Flat Iron Steak.
For Brazilians such as me, picanha is a big deal. The country’s most popular beef cut, known elsewhere as rump cap or top sirloin, comes with a layer of fat that adds juice and tenderness to the meat. The cut needs little addition other than salt to bring the flavor out.
I grew up devouring picanha at Sunday family barbecues in my hometown of Presidente Prudente, about 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) south of Brasilia. Since moving to Hong Kong in 2021, I’ve struggled to find a steakhouse that could give me that cozy and familiar taste of home — my heartland. I’d basically given up, turning to my memories instead — and then I heard about a new restaurant that’s opened on Elgin Street called Picanhas’.
