President Donald Trump threw his support behind France’s embattled far-right leader only hours after French President Emmanuel Macron urged European companies to pause investments in the US over Washington’s trade war.
Trump blasted the conviction of National Rally leader Marine Le Pen, who was found guilty of embezzling €4.4 million ($4.8 million) of European Union funds this week, as a “witch hunt” for what “sounds like a bookkeeping error,” in a social media post late Thursday Washington time.
