The UK is launching a £10 million ($13.2 million) study into the risks and impacts of measures to block some of the Sun’s rays as a way to prevent global warming.

Funding through the Natural Environment Research CouncilBloomberg Terminal aims to improve understanding of what it calls “radical intervention measures to control temperatures.” While the UK has no plans to actually use such methods — known as solar radiation modification — they’re garnering growing interest around the world as efforts to combat climate change fall short of international goals.
