US stocks bounced back Tuesday, capping another topsy-turvy session as traders looked ahead to President Donald Trump’s upcoming tariff announcement on Wednesday.

The S&P 500 Index, after falling nearly 1% earlier, reversed course to finish 0.4% higher as weak manufacturing data coupled with slowing job openings boosted bets on interest-rate cuts. Thin volumes about 20% below their 30-day average for the index exacerbated swings. The Nasdaq 100 Index jumped 0.8%, led higher by Applovin Corp. and Tesla Inc. ahead of quarterly deliveries data. Nvidia Corp. pared early losses to end the day 1.6% higher.
