Polish presidential candidate Slawomir Mentzen prompted outrage from opponents after saying he opposes abortions for rape victims as the country heads toward an election in May.

Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, the frontrunner and candidate of Poland’s governing Civic Platform, slammed Mentzen’s choice of words in a Kanal Zero interview this week. Mentzen said it’s wrong to “kill innocent children” even if they’re born out of “some sort of unpleasantness.”
