Greenland formed a government that excludes the island’s hardline independence group following elections shaped by Donald Trump’s intensified campaign to bring the Danish territory under US control.
The pro-business Demokraatit party, which won the election and backs a slow path to independence from Denmark, and three other parties signed an agreement to form a coalition. Jens-Frederik Nielsen, the 33-year-old leader of Demokraatit, will become the island’s new premier for the alliance which will have the backing of three-quarters of parliament.
