Indonesia Seeks to Regain Control Over Illegal Palm Plantations

Indonesia plans to take over more than a million hectares of what it describes as illegal palm oil plantations, part of efforts to clean up the industry’s image in global markets and boost state revenue.
A forestry task force formed earlier this year by President Prabowo Subianto has identified about 1.2 million hectares of illegal plantations to be returned to forestry ministry management, the Attorney General’s Office, which heads the task force, said in a statement on Wednesday.
