Senegal faces a potential delay in restoring support from the International Monetary Fund, which wants to understand how debt data was misstated for years before discussing a new funding facility for the West African nation.
The IMF suspended Senegal’s $1.8 billion program in October after an audit ordered by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye following his election last year found the previous administration significantly underreported the state of public finances. The government had intended to initiate talks on a new program by April and secure funding by the end of June.
