China Civil Engineering Construction Corp. will invest more than $1.4 billion to revitalize a Mao-era railway line connecting copper mines in Zambia to Tanzania’s biggest port.

Negotiations for a planned 30-year concession are ongoing, Bruno Ching’andu, managing director of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority that operates the line, said in an emailed statement Thursday.
