US President Donald Trump told Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in a recently delivered letter that his nation has a two-month deadline to reach a new nuclear accord, according to a person familiar with its content.
The revelation comes as the US president has ratcheted up pressure on Tehran, including through accelerated strikes on Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen and direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, an Iranian ally. Iran has not responded to the letter, the person said.
